Quick, someone give that bastard seal a lesson in ethics! Get PETA out to throw blood into his water... convince him to go vegan! This cold-blooded slaughter of poor innocent penguins must not be allowed to continue!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was frustratingly dull, and far less creepy than the original movie. I'm not holding my breath about this being any more entertaining (or indeed unsettling) than the Disney version.

“I seriously doubt events involving wandering into a zoo exert a strong selection pressure on the deer population. Roadways are much more relevent to the deer gene pool. Think about this: how often will a gene mutation make a deer more like to avoid a situation where it otherwise would have died by jumping into a lion's den at the zoo? We already know that this cause of death is very rare, so... probably never. Furthermore I can't think of any general case it falls under except "avoid all human activity" which is not only increasingly inmpossbile, it is also not a good trade (seeking human activity earns many deer food handouts).

right, so instead of releasing them all at the same time, they'd rather punish consumers and force them to pirate if they want to be rid of the ridiculous restrictions

Social Security IS welfare...it heavily taxes the working class in an effort to redistribute that wealth to those that can't work and haven't bothered to save money for themselves, but not before passing through the government filter of inefficiency.I make an average salary (about $45-50k)...I'm currently paying about $3000 a year into SS. What if, instead of paying the government that money, I was able to invest that $3000 per year instead? If I had started at age 20 and invested that $3000 per year until age 65 at a rate of 8% (that's a conservative estimate), I would have a nest egg of $1.25 million. That means, at 8% interest, I would be retiring comfortably on $100,000 annually in interest from my nest egg. That's not even taking into account the fact that my salary will increase over time, and thus so will my taxes/investment potential.Compare that to the average monthly SS payment for a retiree today of $1150 ($13,800 annually)...mind telling me how exactly Social Insecurity is such a great thing? |
